This august marks Bill’s fortieth year as a member of The Guild Theatre. In 1981, when working as an actor on television, he brought his children along to see a production of Rebecca, to see if they might be interested in getting some experience. He was floored by the quality of the production and the incredible space The Guild had in which to perform, a rare luxury in Sydney community theatre. He spoke to Resident Director Hazel Plant to see if there were any opportunities and the next week he was rehearsing the role of Juror Three in Twelve Angry Men.
Bill has given his all to The Guild ever since, whether as actor, President, Publicity Officer, Theatre Manager, or President again. He says one of the best things about the Guild is the range of opportunities it provides for expression without any of the professional stress. At The Guild, Bill has played Kings, Captains, and poets but when asked he says ‘Oh, I can’t choose a favourite role. There have been so many.’
