Haki joined The Guild Theatre in 2018. His first show here was A Midsummer Night’s Dream in May of 2018, directed by Susan Stapleton. He says ‘I’ve enjoyed every show I’ve done here and most shows I’ve done anywhere but the sense of family on that production of Midsummer was
special.’
As member of the Director’s Development Program here at the Guild he made his directorial debut with a staging of The Temptation Scene from Othello in late 2019 starring an all female cast. He has since directed an online production of Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 for the Streamed Shakespeare Company, reinterpreting the historical drama as an epic science fiction space-opera to favourable reviews. He has also been an active member of the online theatrical troupe during the pandemic, bringing the Bard’s dramas and comedies right into audiences homes whilst the theatres were closed.
Haki earns his living as a subeditor but is looking for ways to move into other areas of media ‘because the industry has evolved and those of us who are in it must do so as well.’
‘It was a real privilege to get my feet wet as a director in a safe space. That’s one reason community theatre is important, it gives people opportunities.’ – Haki Pepo Olu Crisden
